Summary: The Reconnaissance of the Border Defence Army, which was the leading part of this formation is obligated to resist illegal migration and protect the country. Based on several norms which specifies the tasks of this formation, this article presents its actual duties which later have been evolved towards the Security Services and acheived the task integretion with this service at early 80s. Instead of mainly taking care of the state border protection's issues, the officers of reconnaissance WOP were using the secret collaborators for other purposes for example to fight with the catholic church, or against the NSZZ movement "Solidarność" and its activists and for another tasks of Security Service. It wouldnt be possible to understand the field and the mechanisms governing operation of this division in WOP structures or practical norms of the operational activities without describing the role of Zbigniew Pleskacz (one of many TW - secret collaborators - in Reconnaissance WOP's plans). His and other secret collaborators action caused that the system of the public surveillance in PRL was improved to make sure the citizens were under control. TW "Karol" has provided many persuasive evidence that the public surveillance, which was led by Reconnaissance WOP, was an effective tool and was beyond competency of WOP protecting PRL’s boarders.
