Summary: Jesuit preaching in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was an important model for clergy because Jesuits set sermon models in the 16th and 17th century and promoted new types of sermons. Each generation of Polish Jesuits had outstanding preachers, such as Jakub Wujek, Piotr Skarga, Stanisław Grodzicki, and Marcin Laterna. In the first half of the 18th century, Kacper Balsam was the most outstanding personality. He was born in Lviv but became famous for his sermons delivered in Krakow. A comparison of Balsam’s preaching with that of selected other Polish Jesuits of the 18th century who had similar achievements (Konstanty Awedyk, Franciszek Borowski, Jerzy Dębski, and Atanazy Ludwik Kierśnicki) shows the unique nature of his talent. They were the authors of collections of Sunday sermons, holiday sermons and occasional sermons. Like Balsam, they were active in public life. Despite numerous thematic similarities, Balsam stands out due to the inventiveness and originality of the topics he discusses. He sought to show social relations in accordance with the axiology of the Roman Catholic Church, which made his sermons relevant throughout the 18th century.
