Summary: Trial records are an indispensable source of information regarding the judicia-ry and the phenomenon of crime in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Mentioned documents also remain an indirect trace of the then social relations. The presented de-cree, which records the course of the investigation between the leaseholders of the Sie-niawski-Czartoryski estates, is undoubtedly apart of described issue. Additionally, the situation is distinguished by the fact that its main figures were the representatives of two various communities of nobility and of the Jewish community. The direct cause of the prosecution was an erroneous accusation against the Jew of arye theft, and arising law-lessness on the part of the nobleman. Despite the fact that Turski revealed the real per-petrator of the crime and pleaded guilty, similar cases were not rare. The leasehold was considered as aprofitable occupation; hence, the competition that arose in this field was aconstant source of various conflicts, both social and religious, in which the anti-Jewish sentiment may have played avital role as well. Nowonder that also in this case the role of the scapegoat was assigned to one of representatives of the Jewish faith.
