Summary: The canonical commission which convened in Tuligłowy in 1744 tried to investigate the can-onicity of miracles taking place in front of a Virgin Mary image in a local sanctuary. Many different types of credentials were submitted from oral testimonies, through the letters presented in this paper, to a book of miracles and favors that has been written over the years. The unique collection of ten letters, combined with the analysis of the preserved printed book of miracles and graces, allows us to present the way in which the followers confirmed the functioning of the Virgin Mary cult in Tuligłowy. The canonical process over the course of four years allowed for the establishment of the image of the Mother of God famous for graces. The lack of complete ecclesiastical approval of the image did not diminish its popularity, and the faithful continued to direct their prayers to Our Lady of Tuligłowy. The presented letters are a remarkable testimony of religiosity in the society of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They also show small changes that were made by Father Di-onizy Jaguściński during the preparation of the supplemented printed edition. This is an intriguing direction of research on introducing changes to church documentation, worth further development. By comparing the original preserved letters with the previous printed edition, it was also possible to delve into the social communication strategy of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre, which oversaw the miraculous image at the time.
