Summary: During its history of more than 700 years, the two-storey Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross in Wrocław has served various purposes. In addition to its primary religious function, the upper church since its inception was also the mausoleum of its founder, Henry IV Probus, having acommemorative function. After the war damage of 1945, the reconstruction of the church, which had been destroyed in 25%, was completed in 1949. In 1955, the idea of adapting the upper church to the role of amuseum documenting the Polishness of Silesia emerged. The idea was closely linked to the person of the vicar ca-pitular of the archdiocese of Wrocław - Father Kazimierz Lagosz. Over the course of two years, extensive preparations took place and efforts were made to obtain topclass exhibits, particularly the tombstone of Henry IV. With the dismissal of Lagosz in 1956, the concept ultimately remained unrealised.
