Summary: The article presents, based on foreign and domestic archival materials, the attitude of Austrian monarchs and their diplomats to the issue of adopting the Constitution of May 3 and accepting the Polish crown by the ruler of Saxony. The reaction of Austrian politicians towards the attitude of Prussia, Russia and Saxony in regard to the events in Poland is also discussed. The image of Vienna’s attitude towards the Constitution is complemented by the opinions of Prussian and Saxon diplomats on Austrian policy.
